CST 274 - History of Communication Technologies and Politics in America Examines the history of communication technologies and how they shaped and have been shaped by politics throughout American history. The story begins in pre-revolutionary America, when newspapers united the colonies, and moves through the telegraph, the telephone, motion pictures, radio, broadcasting, network and cable television, personal computers, the Internet, mobile phones, and social media. Students leverage their understanding of communication history to address some of constitutive choices facing our nation, including foreign interference in elections, net neutrality, and data privacy.
