This course examines Mexico’s history and culture from indigenous periods to the arrival of Europeans and Spanish colonization, including the mission system of California, the independence movement, the Mexican-American war and the Mexican Revolution. Students will also analyze the culture and polemics of contemporary Mexico. Taught in English with readings in Spanish for Spanish majors.
