FYS 147 - Literature of Healing: The Representation of Mental Illness in Latinx Literature This course will help familiarize students with the diversity, life and vision of CSUMB while also serving as an introduction to Latinx literature with a particular focus on the reading and analysis of U.S. Latinx writers whose literary works have included representations of mental illness. This course will critically examine narratives that, rather than stigmatizing mental illness, encourage engagement with a topic traditionally considered taboo in Latinx culture. These texts will also be read as tools to promote academic success while engaging with U.S. Latinx culture and history as a whole.
