SPAN 317 - Spanish Popular Music With the turn of the 21st century, Hispanic music has taken over the world. This course is designed to study this phenomenon paying special attention to the music produced in Spain. We will study Spanish popular music within its own historical, sociological, political, and philosophical contexts. We will highlight the intersections of music with gender, race, ethnicity, national identity, and social class, among others. The primary texts of the course will be music albums, music videos, and critical essays of cultural studies and popular music. The class is taught in Spanish.
