VPA 203 - Introduction to Sculpture This course is designed to teach the beginning student the process of conceptualizing, researching, constructing and presenting a body of work as it relates to the genre of sculpture. Through an emphasis on observation, experimentation, and critical thinking students will learn how to create a personal style. The students will also learn ways to translate their ideas into contemporary artwork that communicates to diverse audiences. The students will be exposed to a variety of three- dimensional techniques as well as various possibilities of combining both traditional and non- traditional art materials. In addition to course projects, students are required to keep a sketchbook as a way of documenting their conceptual and visual ideas. Class lectures, demonstration, field trips individual critiques and group discussions supplement the studio experience.
