MSCI 465 - Marine Megafauna An examination of the diversity, evolutionary adaptations, and ecology of large marine predators, including marine mammals, birds, reptiles, and elasmobranchs. Marine megafauna capture much public interest, and as top predators exert a disproportionately large influence on marine ecosystems. This course will cover how these organisms are studied, and their ‘flagship species’ significance as ecosystem indicators, for ocean conservation, and general scientific discovery. Emphasis will be placed on marine megafauna species found in and around Monterey Bay.
