MLML 641 - Advanced Geological Oceanography


MS 241: Geological Oceanography (also known as Marine Geology) is the study of the past and present geological processes that occur on earth’s largest habitat: the oceans. Topics covered include: types and composition of marine rocks and sediments, the shape of the ocean basins, processes occurring in the earth’s lithosphere and how they are interpreted within the broad theory of Plate Tectonics and interactions between geological processes, oceanography and biology in different marine habitats. Includes California’s regional geology with visits on local outcrops. Offered through Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (MLML); contact CSUMB’s Department of Marine Science for MLML registration procedures.
