SPSY 520 - Psychopathology in Schools This seminar is designed to facilitate understanding the diagnositc and educational basis of mental health disorders and disablities. This course targets future and current mental health professionals who work/will work with children and adolescents. A primary focus of the course will be on disorders that are typically observed by psychologists working in schools and other applied settings.It is designed to provide an overview of historical and current perspectives on childhood psychopathology, including current diagnostic and classification systems with with emphasis on specific disorders that overlap with special education identification. Students will build competencies toward understanding child and adolescent psychological disorders, including how assessment, decision making, and intervention can be unique to school systems. Illustrative lectures, discussions, case studies, applied activities, and student-led discussions and presentations will be used to facilitate learning.
