HCOM 400 - Immigration Law This course offers an overview of immigration law in the U.S and current issues related to immigration justice such as the border wall and migrant camp. It introduces the history of immigration law and its constitutional base, including the discrimination ones, as well as different categories of immigration laws, regulations, and landmark cases. It covers basic processes of naturalization, admission, expatriation, and deportation by different federal agencies. The course introduces different types of visas, and their relationships to legal/illegal status in the U.S. Students will learn key terms, legal cases, and laws related to immigrant rights. The course also offers helpful information (“not legal advice”) about DACA undocumented students’ rights to education and equal opportunities. The course reviews U.S. laws that protect human rights and provide humanitarian relief through asylum and refugee. Students will deepen their understanding of immigrants’ contribution to this nation, raise awareness and judgment on immigration justice, and be familiar with important immigration laws and regulations.
