FYS 179 - Myths and Realities of Asia This course serves as an introduction to the land, people, and ideas of Asia. We examine common myths and realities surrounding understandings of Asia and dive into a range of cultural icons (including the barbarian, the samurai, and the foreign devil), using the critical lenses of global history/studies, race, gender, and ethnicity. We will also identify ways in which stereotypes of Asia (and Asians) continue to influence our world today
