HCOM 426 - Travel Narratives Travel narratives have played a powerful role in shaping social inequality by relating journeys to home audiences, portraying the “other,” and revealing the culture and “self” of the traveler. This course examines the historical, literary, and cultural significance of narratives that convey and reinforce themes of discovery, conquest, colonization, exploration, and tourism in the Americas.
