Mathematics, AS-T to Mathematics, B.S.

If you transferred into CSUMB from a California community college as an AS-T-certified student in Mathematics, you must complete the following courses for your bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at CSUMB. If you are unsure about your transfer status, please contact a mathematics faculty advisor as soon as possible.

Required Courses

Complete all of the following core courses:
MATH 300 - Major Proseminar Units: 4
MATH 320 - Applied Probability and Statistics Units: 4
MATH 322 - Foundations of Modern Math Units: 4
MATH 330 - Advanced Linear Algebra Units: 4
MATH 400 - Capstone Seminar Units: 4
MATH 410 - Modern Algebra I Units: 4
MATH 420 - Mathematical Analysis I Units: 4

Concentration

Select one of the following options to complete the requirements of the Mathematics major:

Mathematics for Teaching Concentration, AS-T

Pure & Applied Mathematics Concentration, AS-T

Courses depending on group (see group description below)

If 5 or 6 units are completed from Group A and computer programming is completed in Group B, no additional courses are required. Otherwise, pick from the following options:

If 3 units completed from Group A and no units in computer programming (Group B), complete one of the following course/course combinations:
CST 231 - Problm-Solving/Programng Units: 4 or
CST 319 - Computing Across the Disciplines Units: 3
AND
MATH 230 - Elementary Linear Algebra Units: 3 or
MATH 240 - Elementary Differential Equations Units: 3
If 3 units are completed from Group A and 3 units from computer programming (Group B), complete one of the following courses (dependent on what courses are already completed):
- MATH 230 - Elementary Linear Algebra
- MATH 240 - Elementary Differential Equations
If 5 or 6 units are completed from Group A and no units are completed from Group B, complete one of the following courses:
- CST 231 - Problm-Solving/Programng
- CST 319 - Computing Across the Disciplines

Description of courses from group A and group B completed at community college:

All units are based on the semester and indicated minimum credits. While 3 credits are required from Group A, no units are required from Group B.

Group A

Complete at least one of the following courses:

Differential Equations Units: 3
Linear Algebra Units: 3
Introduction to Differential Equations and Linear Algebra Units: 5

Group B

Discrete Math Units: 3
Physics Units: 4 (Physics majors course)
Mathematical Computing Systems Units: 1
Computer Programming Units: 3 (Any programming course that is articulated as major preparation at a CSU)
Proof Units: 3
Statistics Units: 3

General Education and University Requirements

To satisfy the requirements of this degree, students must successfully complete all Undergraduate Requirements . Several of these (UD-D, GWAR, UDSL) are embedded within the major curriculum or the Transfer Model Curriculum comleted at the CCC.

Students select and complete coursework to meet the following requirements:

the CSU’s upper division GE B area requirement - Suggested to complete CST 319 - Computing Across the Disciplines if the computing requirement was not completed prior to transfer.
the CSU’s upper division GE C area requirement that double counts with World Culture & Language . Select from:
- SPAN 350 - World Culture and Language: Spanish
- JAPN 350 - World Culture and Language: Japanese
the CSU’s upper division GE D area requirement
- the CSU’s American Institution’s requirement

Students may select additional elective coursework if necessary to complete 60 units.
