The Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) program offers a versatile and personalized Bachelor of Arts degree for diverse student populations seeking to complete their degrees when those career goals or interests are not met by traditional degree programs. With five focus areas aligned to disciplinary domains, the IDS program caters to unique career aspirations, providing flexibility, support, and opportunities to apply interdisciplinary knowledge in practical settings leading to a fulfilling career and personal growth.

Required Courses


Students must complete a minimum of 30 units in residence at CSUMB, in addition to all General Education  and Undergraduate Requirements  to qualify for the baccalaureate degree.

Areas of Focus


Students must complete a minimum of nine (9) units in each of two (2) selected areas of focus.

Arts & Humanities Area of Focus  

Business Area of Focus  

Health Sciences Area of Focus  

Science, Math, and Technology Area of Focus  

Social Sciences and Education Area of Focus

MLO 1: Core Disciplinary Skills:

Interdisciplinary Studies graduates effectively employ core disciplinary skills to solve problems and tailor communication strategies.

MLO 3: Integrated Knowledge and Understanding:

Interdisciplinary Studies graduates synthesize and connect knowledge, skills and experiences across disciplines, allowing them to address new and complex situations.

MLO 4: Interdisciplinary Problem Solving:

Interdisciplinary Studies graduates apply knowledge, theories, methods, and practices from various disciplines to address real-world challenges and opportunities.
