The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) provides students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical foundation necessary to promote and protect the health of individuals and communities.  The program emphasizes ethical leadership, collaboration, health equity, hands-on learning, and evidence-based interdisciplinary approaches for improving health outcomes across diverse settings.

The curriculum integrates classroom learning with field experiences, preparing graduates to address complex health challenges through research, program/policy development, community engagement, and public health practice.

Graduates of the BSPH program are prepared for careers in local, state, and federal health agencies, nonprofit and community organizations, healthcare systems, and private industry.  The program also provides a strong foundation for advanced study in public health and related disciplines, including the Master of Public Health (MPH).

Learning Outcomes


MLO 1: Collaboration and Ethical Leadership

Apply the principles of collaboration, ethics, and leadership to work with colleagues and diverse communities to establish shared values and vision to achieve mutual goals.

MLO 2: Equity & Social Justice

Apply principles of cultural awareness and an understanding of social identities to promote diversity, equity, and social justice in health and human services.

MLO 3: Knowledge of Public Health Interventions

Students demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based public health interventions designed to prevent disease, promote health, and improve health outcomes across diverse populations.

MLO 4: Health Systems and Policy

Students demonstrate understanding of the structure, function, and organization of health systems and the role of public policy in shaping population health outcomes. They will analyze how policies, regulations, and healthcare delivery systems influence access, equity, quality of care, and public health practice.

MLO 5: Professional Communication

Critically analyze the organizational and cultural contexts of communication, and demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences in a variety of professional settings.

MLO 6: Professional Development and Application

Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for growth and development as a professional through self-awareness, personal reflection, and self-correcting behavior. Commit to lifelong learning and the application of best practices to advance the health and human services fields.

MLO 7: Application of Statistics and Research Methods in Public Health

Students apply statistical concepts and research methods to collect, analyze, and interpret various types of data in order to evaluate health trends and outcomes.
