General Education and University Requirements

The State of California requires completion of a 48 unit General Education Breadth program, including 9 units of upper division GE in areas B, C, and D in order to meet graduation requirements. CSUMB also requires completion of campus-specific University Requirements .

Students select and complete coursework in the following areas to satisfy their degree requirements:

• the CSU’s upper division GE B area requirement  
• the CSU’s upper division GE C area requirement  
• the CSU’s upper division GE D area requirement ; this may be satisfied through HDFS 353, HDFS 320, or HDFS 321–all options for completing major requirements.
  • the CSU’s American Institution’s requirement  
• the CSU’s Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR); satisfied in the major (HDFS 301)
• CSUMB’s upper division Service Learning requirement; satisfied in the major (HDFS 305S or HDFS 380S)
• CSUMB’s World Culture & Language requirement ;

Students may select additional elective coursework if necessary to complete 60 units, including a 12-unit minor of their choice.
