Teaching World Languages (English) Certificate

This unique certificate course series provides graduates with an introduction to language teaching and second language acquisition.

Learning Outcomes


  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental components of human language, including phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics, as well as the role of pragmatics in using human language to communicate.
     
  2. Apply knowledge of both the development of a first language and the acquisition of subsequent languages, and be able to identify observable milestones and major theories that attempt to explain the processes of language development and acquisition.
     
  3. Know and apply a range of instructional methods to the respective and interrelated developing abilities in three modes of communication: Integrative, interpersonal, and presentational. 
     
  4. Apply knowledge of linguistic structure and  identify and use the conventions associated with standard written language forms. 
     
  5. Explain the differences between oral and written language forms.  
     
  6. Apply strategies for lesson preparation
