HCOM 265 - Histories of Democracy The course explores the changing meaning of democracy and freedom from a multicultural perspective. It covers major events between the Colonial and Civil Rights eras, with particular focus on the 1860s-1960s. It includes the origins, key developments, and philosophies of civic and democratic institutions, and the social justice movements that have shaped democracy in the United States over time.
