Cathi Draper Rodriguez, Ph.D., Interim Dean
Cathi Draper Rodriguez, Ph.D., NCSP, LEP is Professor of School Psychology and Interim Dean of the CSUMB College of Education. Cathi joined the CSUMB faculty as an Assistant Professor of Special Education in 2007. Dr. Draper Rodriguez earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northern Arizona University. She earned her master’s degree in special education and PhD in special education and school psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
While Department Chair of Education and Leadership at CSUMB, Dr. Draper Rodriguez led the development of several new programs which meet the needs of our community. These programs include (a) a new Master of Science degree and credential program in School Psychology with an emphasis on supporting Migrant Youth and Emergent Bilinguals, (b) a new bilingual added authorization that prepares teachers to teach in bilingual settings, (c) a new preliminary Educational Administration credential program for teachers and educators who aspire to become school administrators/leaders, and in partnership with Liberal Studies, (d) a integrated degree and credential programs that allow students to complete their undergraduate degree and credential programs in a shorter time frame.
Prior to her work in higher education, Dr. Draper Rodriguez worked as a bilingual school psychologist in a public school setting. Her position focused on consulting with multidisciplinary teams to make appropriate special education decisions for Emergent Bilingual students. She also worked as an early interventionist providing services to young Latina mothers in their homes. She conducted home visits to Latinx families who had children, newborn through age five; provided information on child development, parenting skills and community resources; conducted assessments to monitor child’s development; if delays were found, provided or found appropriate services for the child and family.
Dr. Draper Rodriguez has focused her research on the appropriate identification of disabilities in Emergent Bilinguals, School Success for At-Risk Youth, Assessment in Education and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
