Art History, AA-T to Visual & Public Art, B.A.

If you transferred into CSUMB as an AA-T-certified student in Art History, you must complete the following courses for your bachelor’s degree in Visual and Public Art at CSUMB. If you are unsure about your transfer status, please talk to an advisor.

Required Courses

Complete all of the following courses:
VPA 300 - VPA Major ProSeminar Units: 4
VPA 302 - VPA Visiting Artist Series Units: 2 (taken twice)
VPA 309 - Materials and Methods Units: 2
VPA 313 - Regional Art History Units: 4
VPA 405 - Senior Capstone Units: 4 (to be taken twice in the senior year)
Complete one of the following courses:
VPA 310 - Mixed Media Units: 4
VPA 303 - Beginning Sculpture Units: 4
Complete one of the following courses:
VPA 320S - Museum Studies Units: 4
VPA 306S - Digital Public Art Units: 4
Complete one of the following courses:
VPA 305 - Media Culture Units: 4
VPA 307 - Diverse History of Contemporary Art Units: 4
VPA 308 - Ways Of Seeing Units: 3
To complete the requirements of the VPA major, select and successfully complete eleven (11) units of upper division VPA coursework. Search options here.

General Education and University Requirements

The State of California requires completion of a 48 unit General Education Breadth program, including 9 units of upper division GE in areas B, C, and D in order to meet graduation requirements. CSUMB also requires completion of campus-specific University Requirements .

Students select and complete coursework in the following areas to satisfy their degree requirements:

the CSU’s upper division GE B area requirement
the CSU’s upper division GE C area requirement
the CSU’s upper division GE D area requirement
- the CSU’s American Institution’s requirement
the CSU’s Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR)
CSUMB’s upper division Service Learning requirement
CSUMB’s Ethnic Studies requirement
CSUMB’s World Culture & Language requirement

Students may select additional elective coursework if necessary to complete 60 units.
